I was born and raised in Venezuela, where I went to medical school, but living and practicing medicine in the US was always my dream. After graduating from medical school, I moved to the USA, and I spent two years at Johns Hopkins University doing research in COPD/asthma and environmental modifiable risk factors. For residency, I trained at UPMC, and I enjoyed living in Pittsburgh for three years. Now, I have been living in Boston for a year, and I am loving it! My current research focuses on identifying the epidemiological, clinical, and genetic factors (such as HLA) associated with antibiotic-induced DRESS, with the ultimate goal of better understanding who is at risk for this reaction and preventing its occurrence. From a safety perspective, I am particularly interested in assessing the extent of DRESS documentation in electronic medical records, especially for severe cases, where re-exposure to certain medications could pose life-threatening risks.
